Nice is nice, but Sherwin is nicer

The trip from Tel Aviv was pretty uneventful. However, when Air France give you an hour to transfer in Paris from international to domestic… they mean ONE HOUR! Sit at the front of the plane… get off as fast as you can… run like hell to beat everyone to passport control, use the information touch screens to scan your ticket, and hope your domestic flight is delayed. As I have experience with Air France, the delay was the one thing I could count on.

Nice has been beautiful. The weather has been amazing and it was the first time I have been able to stand outside in shorts and a t-shirt since I left Australia.

However, I have not really looked around that much, as I want to discover the city as Sherwin does. So, of course, it is now pouring rain torrentially.

I arrived at exactly the right and wrong time. It is Carnival here at the moment. With multiple parades and festivities… BUT… this virus panic has hit Nice and much of the public events have been cancelled. I was extremely fortunate, however, to get to the last non-cancelled parade. I t was awesome. Happy Mardi Gras Sydney, but seriously, pick up your game. This was the single greatest parade I have ever seen. For those not on my Facebook, here is the video. I think it started at 9pm… I think I got home around 2:30am.

But this video doesn’t even come close to the experience. I also met some awesome (and also crazy) humans that night.

I made a really good friend here in Nice… well… at least I hope so. He is an engineer… like a proper one. So, for those who know me, he thinks completely different to me. But he is a pretty cool human and I hope to stay friends with him. We both confronted our fear of heights jumping on the ferris wheel here. I have only really made a couple of friends since I left home, and each one is someone I really connect with. Compliments to you if you are reading this blog, as I really only surround myself with people who are smarter than me or more interesting than most humans. He is that. And you probably are too.

So now it is pouring down rain… I am so close to a beach, and I have never seen that many seagulls fight on roof tops… and Sherwin is 3 hours from arriving. I guess the only thing I can think of to do is buy an umbrella, because, after a sleep, the walking begins.

On a final note: I chose to travel to change my view of the world. I did that. But there is still something not quite right. I know what that thing is… I really need to see my husband and be with him. So sorry Australia, if I can convince him, you won’t get him back.

Cheers,

JC
